Project Overview

The purpose of this project is to return the site to the Crown’s ownership as efficiently as possible. This project includes bulk earthworks, remediation of contaminated soils and rehabilitation of the landform.

What did we do?

Catalyst coordinated authority approvals including the Mine Closure Plan with the Department of Resources and Development Consent with Maitland City Council.

Extensive community consultation was coordinated to determine the post-mining land use, followed by a detailed, scenario based tender evaluation and engagement of DECC for the remediation and rehabilitation works. To ensure efficiency on an hourly rate contract, Catalyst provided full-time supervision of the site works and coordination of environmental monitoring and controls.

Upon completion of the remediation, Catalyst managed the rehabilitation inclusive of landscaping and maintenance. An extensive monitoring, data collection and reporting exercise followed which allowed the team to demonstrate to the Resource Regulator that all Mine Closure Criteria has been achieved, leading to the first Mining Lease Relinquishment on Crown Lands in NSW.
